About The Book:

“In 2006, co-authors Robert Scoble and Shel Israel wrote Naked Conversations, a book that persuaded businesses to embrace what we now call social media. Six years later they have teamed up again to report that social media is but one of five converging forces that promise to change virtually every aspect of our lives. You know these other forces already: mobile, data, sensors and location-based technology. Combined with social media they form a new generation of personalized technology that knows us better than our closest friends.”

Secrets from The Age of Context

Are you ready to cross the freaky line? That was the question that echoed across Silicon Valley this morning. We are living, breathing sensors. We will be tracked. But (hopefully) we will be catered to.

You might’ve heard about a new book The Age of Context that’s been especially hot in the past few weeks among the Twitter and Google+ faithful–and receiving universal praise as a must read for those looking to make sense of this new mobile, socially-connected world . Read more…

Living a (Data) Rich Life in the Age of Context

This will not be an unbiased book review. If you know anything about me, you know that I love and use bleeding-edge technology: from apps that look at my skin and tell me my heartbeat, to the band on my arm that counts my steps and tells me how well I sleep at night, to the Google Glass on my face, to the 3-D printer in my home, I’m a human experiment. And I am not alone. At least two other people are on this journey to the future with me, both friends of mine, both geeks like I am.

The Age of Context is a term you’ve probably never heard before, unless you know Shel Israel and Robert Scoble, both of whom have been using it for about a year. Whether you’ve heard of it or not, you are already feeling its effects. Read more…

The Already Existent Future Of The Age of Context

We are going to live in the age of Iron Man’s J.A.R.V.I.S., not Batman’s Alfred. That is the gist that I get from reading Shel Israel and Robert Scoble’s new book, The Age of Context: Mobile, Data, Sensors and the Future of Privacy. Okay, I declared sides in the eternal Marvel vs. DC debate, and my pro-technology bias, but for good reason.

The Age of Context is a tour-de-force documentary of the state of technology in 2013 looking across a broad number of fields: healthcare, transportation, the electronic home, urbanization, mobile devices, marketing, and understanding customers. There are so many references to real companies, inventions, and people in this book, it is encyclopedic—yet only in 276 pages in my e-book copy.Read More…

A Book In 5 Minutes: “the Age Of Context” By Robert Scoble And Shel Israel

Who should read this: Readers interested in the future of technology, including entrepreneurs who are hoping to build successful applications that leverage mobile, social media, big data, or location-based services.

Elevator pitch: Contextual technologies – which “understand” things about you and your environment – are the latest evolution in tech, made popular by Google Glass. This book describes how contextual technology will influence the way you live and work in the future. We already have fridge magnets that can order your favorite pizza, car software that disables the gas on stolen vehicles, and radiation detectors in Japan; imagine what the future will bring. Read more…
